The Waterfield CitySlicker case is an attractive, premium carry for the Nintendo Switch. It’s range of game card holders, pockets and exterior compartments is capacious enough for everything you’d need to game on the go. For gamers looking for a case they would be proud to put in their backpack, this is the one. I went through the same journey and now? Let’s just say it’s my go-to case for my Switch.

Portable Gaming Luxury
When I’m commuting or travelling with my backpack, I always make sure that I bring my Nintendo Switch well-protected and secured. The Waterfield Designs team in San Francisco built an impressive case with gamers in mind.
When I carry the Waterfield CitySlicker, the Switch becomes a core travel device I want to always bring. The case gives my Switch the love, luxury and care that it deserves… and I generally don’t speak in such an intimate language in such a way. *ahem*
There is finally a premium case that emphasises materials, quality and design. The CitySlicker is not much bigger than the Switch itself – it’s 27cm wide, 13cm long and 4cm deep. The extra depth offers more functionality but never does the CitySlicker ever feel bulky when in full load.

A Slick case for the City
The distressed full-grain leather lid is a beauty to look at, aging gracefully over time with personality. There are four leather colours to choose from: Black, Grizzly, Crimson and Blue. The contrasting leather adds to the smart look of the case, built with ballistic nylon that gives it extra toughness when absorbing impact from an accidental drop. A little tab on the bottom gives you leverage to lift the lid when it’s packed, though I found the magnetic locks easy to open without the tab.
Lifted up, black leather wraps the width of the Waterfield CitySlicker case, holding 5 games that are readily visible and easy to take out. The Switch cartridges fit perfectly from the beginning. A little hole in each slot lets you slide each game out with ease which I liked. The Waterfield CitySlicker is finally a swish case, that the Nintendo Switch has been needing for a long time.

All-in-one handheld carry
Inside is a main space and two pockets built into the front and the rear of the compartment. The main space fits the Nintendo Switch with the JoyCons attached. As for the inner material, it swaps the leather and nylon for a microsuede material. You can be assured your Switch will stay scratch-free and cushioned inside a backpack. The rear pocket is slightly wider than the front, allowing you to store small, relatively flat items together but not too much.
I tend to put my earphones and power bank inside which slot in well and with minimal added bulk. I’ll be honest, I even put my keys in the front and as much as you’d want to avoid the combination, the Waterfield CitySlicker Case does a terrific job. No scratches or cause for concerns here.
On the back, an external zipped compartment gives additional space to store USB cables and other flat items. There are a lot of storage built around the case which adds freedom in what you can carry with the CitySlicker. The mesh construction gives a rough view what’s inside so you don’t have to unzip to find out. When you’re all done, the zip closes in for a small finishing touch.
When all is packed together, the Waterfield CitySlicker still keeps a compact profile. Impressive.
Whether you have long, large or small hands, you won’t have a problem gripping the case. My fingers are long and narrow so when I open my backpack, it’s easy to pull out. I know everything gaming is inside, instead of being scattered around different bag pockets. That’s a huge plus for me when you’re gaming on the train, the bus or fitting in a short session during breaks.

Quality extras to kit out the CitySlicker
There are a few extras you can add-on to the Waterfield CitySlicker case, such as a flat leather cartridge holder which stores an extra 12 games. There are also tether points on either side of the case for a leather strap or carabiner. I have the leather strap which is longer than I expected, but clips in well with the metal connector.
I found this most useful if I used this as a carry to wrap around my wrist for extra security. It can also be used to lock into your backpack or simply an ergonomic way of holding the case. While I didn’t have the chance to try it out, Waterfield offer full-length shoulder straps which would make this better as a small carry. While these are nice extras, I do recommend Switch gamers who carry a larger library of games to go for the leather holder. The leather feels great, has a slim profile and matches well with the Waterfield CitySlicker.
