Merry Christmas 2021 Team KBA!

Raise your glasses familia, you deserve it.

Here we are, towards the tail-end of 2021. Lest to say it’s been a rollercoaster of a year for all of us – for many different reasons – good and bad. However you are celebrating this festive winter holiday, I hope you can find comfort, warmth and bonding with your loved ones this Christmas!

It’s the first time spending Christmas in the UK after celebrating the last two in Korea. It feels different, but it’s nice to spend it with family again. Certainly, as I’ve gotten older, Christmas has been more about enjoying the moment, and less about needing any gifts or presents. It’s just about the children and enjoying the festivities eating food, chatting, watching, playing games and family karaoke. (The microphone speaker singing to karaoke songs on YouTube is a hit as a family… too funny!

A different Christmas

Christmas in Seoul isn’t as widely celebrated or as big of a thing in the UK, where people have holidays from before Christmas until beyond New Years, Christmas lights decorated all around the outside of houses, and hearing the classics Mariah Carey ‘All I Want for Christmas is You‘, Wham ‘Last Christmas‘ and The Pogues ‘Fairytale of New York‘ on the radio. There’s certainly a festive atmosphere in the UK, a cheer among everyone wishing ‘Merry Christmas’ as you pass them by or finish work for the holidays.

Seoul does have amazingly lit places like Insadong, Siehung, COEX, Jamsil and more, with beautiful lights, big Christmas trees, and snow to blanket the streets. Staple Christmas classics run like ‘Home Alone’, ‘Harry Potter’, ‘Jack Frost’ you can lay back and watch at home to. Christmas has a holiday is very short before Koreans have to go back to work, but certainly everyone are a little more merry. I think Christmas is also a couple thing which is pretty interesting as we tend to celebrate it as a family in the wider landscape of things.

I kind of forgot what it was like to spend Christmas in the UK. Even if the global Pandemic doesn’t look like slowing down anytime soon, keeping our spirits high and enjoying the moments with people we care about is something we shouldn’t take for granted. And being away for 2.5 years, it’s something I am very grateful for.

Merry Christmas Team KBA, I’m going to enjoy relaxing this season and I hope you are too. And I can’t wait to share what’s in store for 2022, reflecting on my Year in Review before we close the curtains.
