The Manta Sleep Mask has been one of, if not the best sleep mask that I’ve worn. It’s modular approach makes it a perfect fit for all head sizes while the eye pieces are comfortable and tailored to deliver total blackout when you want it. For Manta Sleep’s first attempt, they created something that allows deep restful sleep, taking confidence that it stays on your head from the moment you put it on, to the moment you wake up.
Check out my review of the newer Manta Sleep Mask V2. It’s upgraded in every way and makes the best sleeping mask even better. Read Manta Sleep Mask V2 Review.
The package is a long tear-able plastic with the front focused on the restful features of the Manta Sleep modular mask. Around the back includes a further technical breakdown of the parts.
Tearing the package from the top in one smooth motion, you’ll find it comes with a zipped mesh case that is spacious enough with the mask itself inside. I was surprised to find three sets of foam earplugs inside… a welcome inclusion to round off the sleeping experience. The full suite of what you need, how to carry it and extra bonuses found in the Manta Sleep Mask package.
While common sleeping masks are generally made of one main piece – some out of jasmine silk for a gentle approach – Manta Sleep modular mask makes sure it caters to every person’s head profile and comfort around the eyes. The band exterior has a soft touch to it, while the interior uses cotton much like the eyepieces. It was very comfortable to wear night after night with no pressure or discomfort happening around my eyes at all.
The earplugs themselves are nothing special, but they help shut out noise to some extent for better deep sleep if you’re a light sleeper. The large diameter of the pair of eyepieces ensure you get total blackout – not once did I experience any light leakage before sleep, waking up as the lights came in or taking a nap during the afternoon. These were seriously impressive.
One of the biggest gripes I have about sleep masks are that they slip-off my head every. single. time. That question you ponder to yourself, swearing you put it on last night only to find it’s fallen off the bed or reach the foot of your mattress – how?
As someone who has used several kind of eye masks, the Manta Sleep Mask is the first to stay on my head consistently and feel as secure as when I first put them on. This stems down to two reasons: the anti-slip gel and the velco-fastened mechanism. The small anti-slip gel really helps in securing the headband, gripping your head to stop it rubbing off as you move around during the night.
The most well-thought out, ergonomic and versatile mask I’ve worn that meets all my requirements.
The velco-fastener then allows you to comfortably press it firmly around your head for a secure and tailored fit you just don’t get with non-detachable straps. It reminds me of head-visors and takes the same approach to fit. As a result, the Manta Sleep Mask works equally well here.
I have quite a small head so tightened the mask with excess material leftover, but this never pulled or caused the headband to unravel. I’m relatively stable in movements but take confidence that with a secured fit even fiddly individuals will find comfort here.
The thicker padding and eyepiece do mean it has a larger profile in thickness than your conventional sleeping masks, but for what it does and how effective it works, it don’t mind at all. The headband in itself is actually quite slimline so overall don’t feel design wise it’s bulky. The exterior artistic, spotty design on the smooth black finish look great otherwise.
I’ve tried several eye masks that all missed the mark when it comes to ensuring restful sleep. But the Manta Sleep Mask truly stands out from the rest – no light leakage, comfortable padding, grippy that it stays in place when I wake up and effortless to fit it how I like it. Ever since, I’ve worn it for total blackout with added resting comfort on the eyes for deep REM sleep. In many ways, Manta Sleep Mask is a must for on the go or difficult sleepers to catch some restful zzzz.
The modular concept was yet to find its place in sleep masks but I think Manta Sleep have executed to near perfection. Priced at $29.99 USD and you’ll think it’s far beyond what you would want to spend – however you get what you pay for and this is the smartest accessory you could get that enhances the way you sleep and thus allows you to be even more productive.
Manta Sleep Mask gets my ‘Top Travel Accessory’ Award – after wearing it for many nights, I don’t think I would want to go back to conventional ways.
